ac3 playback

AC3 Playback

Hey all,
I've installed the AC3 audio codec (the latest version, 1.01AC5) and am unable to hear the audio in my avi files with ac3 audio in multiple different media players. The video (xvid) plays fine but I get an error in the player saying it cannot find the codec for the sound, and the "Web Help" troubleshooter identifies it as the -0010-8000-00AA00389B71} codec
I`m using the public Beta 2 version of Vista, and a X-Fi Xtrememusic with Creative`s driver. Anyone else having a similar issueÉ

I installed the ac3 filter from doom9.net and it works perfectly with all my divx/xvid files that have a ac3 stream. Might be worth a try.

You don't need an AC3 codec, Microsoft have provided one in the OS. However...
There seems to be a bug in WMP, AC3 output doesn't work in it. If you load the media through GraphEdit, AC3 output works fine. I have tried other AC3 filters, which all work okay, although WMP playback still has the same problem.
In your case, I'd check AC3 is enabled on the sound output device. You'll probably also want to enable DTS.
