I tried to play with Xine a film that does have AC3 track under Gentoo. It plays OK, but does not play 5.1 itself - just stereo. Well I dont have the sblive but I have the audigy with 5.1 working so I will try to be of some help. How could I find the reason? What should I check first and last? To be more specific,

Bear in mind that for optimal AC3 playback you'll need five identical full range speakers and a sub to round it off. You'll also need six rather than four channels of amplification. ... codec as for ac3 I have a regedit that applies the necessary filter for ac3 playback....usually the avi will play with no sound if you have a avi encoded with ac3 (dolby 5.1). By applying the filter the avi will play ok. all free! and they all work! Let me know if you want the ac3 filter and we may hook up.
