AC3 playback failes
My kit: Dxr2, SB Live player (and also SB Live 5.1 bought but not installed) and an external Dolby Digital AV Amp At the moment I can connect either the spdif from the Dxr2 to the amp and get AC3 playback fine, OR I can connect the spdif on the Live to the amp and get "soundcard" digital audio fine.

With respect to Dolby Digital, the Live 5.1 drivers include an ac3.vxd file. As best as I can tell it's used for upto 5.1 playback of Dolby Digital music or As far as AC3 music playback goes I only get it to work with Playcenter 2. Could someone tell me: how to play some AC3 using something different than Xine? Does MPlayer play AC3 5.1 films properly? Dxr2 / SB Live / Live 5.1 AC3 passthrough confusion
The video codec used is divx and the audio is ac3 (AKA a52). Isn't that the reason why you bought the AC3 ready pioneer? I just bought Yamaha's AC3 unit and had to buy a Pioneer AC3 laserdisc to be able to use the capabilities of Dolby Digital. Since you have the AC3 Pioneer unit all you need is AC3 playback hardware to experience your new capabilities.

Ik heb met meerdere conversieprogramma's AVI-bestanden aangemaakt met MPEG-II en AC3 en met verschillende codecs. Ook MPEG2-bestanden. that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
